GEORGE TOWN AND MELAKA ON UNESCO LIST

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s (UNESCO) World Heritage Committee has inscribed Melaka and George Town, Penang, into the UNESCO World Heritage List on 7 July 2008. The two Malaysian capitals noww join the ranks of Gunung Mulu National Park and Kinabalu Park, both inscribed into the list in 2000.
Malaysia’s inscription into the UNESCO World Heritage List joins other iconic landscapes and monuments such as China’s Great Wall, India’s Taj Mahal, the US’s Grand Canyon and Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.
“These Malaysian Towns have developed over 500 years of trading and cultural exchanges between the East and the West in Straits of Melaka. The influences of Asia and Europe have endowed the towns with a specific multi-cultural heritage that is both tangible and intangible”,said UNESCO.

MOUNTAIN BIKING TIPS


1-Find out about the trail and surroundings, be sure that you have enough time to complete the entire route before darkness falls. Do not stray off the path. A compass would be handy, just in case.

2-Use good judgment regarding the fitness level required for the trail, and know your physical limits.


3-Always let someone know of your plans and destination for the day, especially if going alone.

4-Bring enough water and pack some light snacks to keep energy level up. Unless biking with a knowledgeable partner, it is not advisable to eat jungle fruit or drink from any water source.


5-Be prepared for sudden rain showers by carrying appropriate rain gear.

6-Always check your bike before starting out. Pay special attention to tyres, which can damage more easily due to the rough terrain.

TERENGGANU LOCATION

Redang Island


Scuba diving to appreciate the rich marine environment is common, with outstanding dive sites such as Sipadan Island and Layang-layang Island in Sabah, as well as Tioman Island, Redang Island and the Perhentian Islands on Penisula’s East Coast.

Redang Island, 45km off the coast of Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu, also offers exellent spots for diving thanks to the sheltered waters of the Redang Island Marine Park. Rockcod, nudibranch, batfish, and Yellow-tail barracudas are among the marine life that abound in Redang Island. Among the popular dive sites here are Tanjung Tokong were Green and Hawksbill turtles have been spotted and Tunnel Point. Tanjung Lang is the shallowest, offering fans, whips and other corals in waters with a maximum depth of 18 meters.
